Leon Matthias

A renowned trainer and respected judge, he has dedicated his life to producing and training the finest of the Arabian breed. His experience and expertise spans 30+ years of judging both Regional and National Level competitions in the United States and Europe. His Level-1 Judge status finds him holding judging cards in various breeds. From Halter and Western Pleasure to English, he has judged almost every discipline including equitation.

The only thing that rivals Leon's love and dedication to his Arabians is his love and dedication to his family. His pride and joy are his grandkids, Landon & Eva Matthias. Nothing makes Leon happier than spending time with his family and sharing his love for the Arabian horse.

Lon Matthias

Born and raised in Iowa, Lon Matthias has been
raising and showing horses all his life. From the time he could walk, Lon has followed in his father's footsteps--when it comes to horses and his love of them. Lon is a member of the Arabian Horse Association, Arabian Horse Registry of America, and USEF. He and his wife, Kim, and son Landon, and daughter Eva live in Norwalk Iowa.

Kim Matthias

Kim Matthias has over 20 years experience working in
the Arabian Horse Show arena. As Matthias Arabian's
Operations Manager she is responsible for the day-to
day activities--including breeding, healthcare, show
records and documentation for over 40 horses. Kim's
breeding success in both Arabian and Half-Arabian
horses hasresulted in many regional and national-level

As an accomplished rider in all levels of competition, as well as teacher, Kim brings her love of the breed and enthusiasm for excellence into everything she does. Kim is a member of the Arabian Horse Association, Arabian Horse Registry of America, and USEF. Kim and her husband Lon, and son Landon, and daughter Eva live inNorwalkIowa.

Ashley Ackerson

Ashley joins Matthias Arabians as Assistant Trainer and brings 17 years of experience in a wide range of disciplines ~ Western, Hunt, Saddle seat and Reining. Ashley spent her youth involved in the Arabian horse industry. After high school, Ashley spent time working with Quarter horses in the reining world, graduating from college, and then working professionally in 2010 as an assistant trainer at Heartland Stables training Saddlebreds.

Ashley’s accomplishments include earning her degree in Ag Business and Animal Science from Northwest Missouri State. Ashley managed the University horse barn and was very involved in the Rodeo team/club and Horse judging team. In 2009, Ashley was selected Iowa Sr. Cowgirl Queen. During her time at Heartland, she won the Shatner Western Pleasure class at St. Louis Nationals and was Top Ten in the National Finals Shatner Western Pleasure class. Ashley has become a skilled teacher and trainer in a variety of disciplines.

Ashley shares her love of Arabians with horse and rider alike. She currently has a great group of amateur riders who are working to better their horsemanship skills whether the goal is riding for pleasure, fun shows or at the National level. Ashley is a talented rider and prides herself on being able to use positive encouragement and techniques to give the horses she trains the confidence to excel.
